RECOMMENDATION #27

Research options for creating and implementing a Business Mentorship Program.

Consideration for this program will be performed during fiscal year 2021.

  • Further research programs currently in place with the Texas Department of Transportation and North Texas Tollway Authority.
  • Determine viability of program and develop structure for program.
  • Look for opportunities to partner with the Small Business Development Center or the Lewisville Area Chamber of Commerce.

Status: Ongoing

Completed Actions:

  • Coordinated City of Lewisville Procurement Meeting on April 12 with Lewisville Chamber
  • Finalized the schedule for the Lewisville Business Development Series for 2023. 2 out of 4 meetings have been held that include City staff, Lewisville Chamber staff, and businesses.
  • Finalizing a business survey to understand the needs of the business community. Once the survey is completed, we will develop a program based on the feedback we received. We intend to incorporate information on how to do business with City departments as well as connecting them with external resources in the community.
  • City of Lewisville and Lewisville Chamber of Commerce completed 2023 Lewisville Business Connection series that included a session on Small Business Marketing.
  • Finalized the schedule for the 2024 Lewisville Business Connection series that will include 3 out of 4 meetings specialized in Small Business marketing, cybersecurity, and innovative technologies.
  • The business survey was completed and released but we did not receive enough responses to collect sufficient data.

Planned Actions

  • On an as needed basis, Economic Development will help coordinate and connect local businesses to each other through planned events, instead of creating a separate program. Staff will promote business mentorship opportunities by continuing to host the Business Connection Series with the Lewisville Area Chamber of Commerce. Staff will continue to host the Unveiling Lewisville event where businesses can learn about city resources and network with other local businesses.
