The Gene Carey Animal Shelter and Adoption Center is an open intake facility for Lewisville residents and accepts any animal regardless of health, age, or breed.

Animal Services regularly works with rescue organizations to help increase our capacity for care and encourage those wishing to surrender a pet to evaluate all other resources available prior to surrender.

  • Owner-surrendered pets are by appointment & online submission only. More information on the How to surrender a pet page.
  • Pet adoptions are by appointment & online submission only at this time. For details, visit the Adoptable Pets page to view the Virtual Adoption Process.
  • For those searching for a lost pet or have found a pet, please view the Lost and Found Pets page prior to coming to the shelter. All animals impounded and all lost and found reports are posted there.

For more information not listed here or if you have an animal related issue, please call the Animal Shelter during normal business hours. If you have an emergency, call 911.
