Legler

The Fire Marshal’s Office (FMO) is led by Fire Marshal/Division Chief Tom Legler and consists of 11 dedicated professionals, including the Fire Marshal, Chief Fire Inspector, Investigations Captain (and K9 Celina), five certified Fire Inspectors, and three Fire Investigators/CoCare.

The FMO provides the leadership and services to help prevent fires and to reduce the occurrence and/or impact of fires and other emergencies for those who live, work, and visit Lewisville. The FMO is responsible for code enforcement and education, identifying the origin and cause of fires that occur within the city. We ensure the installation and maintenance of fire protection equipment and systems, as well as monitoring the storage and handling of hazardous materials and substances.

Through a variety of services, the FMO is able to serve the community by providing:

Fire Code Inspections, Plan Reviews, and Code Enforcement
Fire Investigations
Construction and Development
Public Safety Education
Mental Health Response (CoCare)

The City of Lewisville has adopted the 2021 edition of the International Fire Code, with local amendments that can be found at Fire Code Amendments.

Fire Prevention Unit

As part of the Fire Marshal’s Office, the members of the Lewisville Fire Prevention Division are responsible for ensuring that all new buildings in Lewisville are built in compliance with the adopted Fire Code and that all existing buildings are maintained to prevent fire and life safety hazards.

It is the goal of the Fire Prevention Unit, is to:

Conduct annual inspections of all businesses and commercial buildings annually.
New construction inspections, which include fire lanes, fire protection systems, and building finals.
New tenant inspections
Respond to fire code complaints reported by other city departments, other agencies, and the public.
Permitting and managing Gas Well Ordinance.
Conduct plan reviews on all commercial buildings and fire protection systems prior to construction. This ensures the project is designed appropriately. Plan Submittals and Permitting is coordinated with MyGovernmentOnline.

Fire Investigation Unit

The Fire Investigation Unit is responsible for fire, arson, and explosion investigations. Members of the Fire Investigation Unit are certified fire investigators through the Texas Commission of Fire Protection and several members are certified peace officers through the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.

We have 13 investigators, which include the Fire Marshal and the Investigations Captain. Each Operations Shift has an assigned fire/arson investigator. Additionally, there are 7 investigators in other divisions that conduct origin and cause investigations.

Celina

The Lewisville Fire Marshal’s Office uses an accelerant detection canine to assist fire investigators in location areas for collection of evidence samples for laboratory analysis at fire scenes. The Lewisville canine team is certified by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. K-9 Celina is ready and eager to serve at a moment's notice.

The Fire Investigations Division is part of the Denton County Arson Task Force. This is a coalition of fire investigators across Denton County that is available to respond and assist Lewisville Fire Investigators during significant investigations.
