The Crime Prevention/Fire Control District was approved by Lewisville voters in November 2011. In addition, voters approved an eighth-cent sales tax for Crime Control and an eighth-cent sales tax for Fire Prevention. Those sales taxes took effect in April 2012. In May 2016, voters approved the extension of the Fire Prevention District for an additional 20 years via a referendum election. Money raised through those sales tax is restricted by law to certain uses related to their stated purposes.
